The idea for the U3A group "Musical Memories" came from a discussion between Edward Peckham, John Simkin and Steve Carleysmith. Edward had long wanted a U3A group for enjoying the wide range of music that interests U3A'ers and John suggested something along the lines of "Desert Island Discs". After a trial run in 2018, we now have a format where a presenter selects twelve musical items (up to three minutes each) to be played over two hours. The presenter explains for each item why it has been chosen, and how it is significant in their life. The members of the group contribute their thoughts and reminiscences sparked by the music. The styles range widely and have included country music, blues, folk, choral, classical and opera - often provoking interesting comments and memories. Each member of group will have the opportunity to present their significant tunes with tales.
